In the case of bidirectional charging, EVs can even function as mobile, flexible storage systems that can be integrated into the grid. This paper introduces a novel testing environment that integrates unidirectional and bidirectional charging infrastructures into an existing hybrid energy storage system.
The bidirectional charging EV is modeled as a storage technology that draws power from the main node to satisfy the EV load and supplies power back to the main node. Analysis for the EVs was conducted separately for unidirectional and bidirectional EVs (i.e., in each simulation, either all EVs are unidirectional, or all are bidirectional).
In addition, with the proposed strategies, the bidirectional charging/discharging capability of the battery is able to achieve the maximum PV power utilization. All the proposed strategies can be realized by the digital signal processor without adding any additional circuit, component, and communication mechanism.
