Energy Vault Project (China, Rudong) - Groundbreaking of this first of its kind, gravity energy storage center was announced in May of 2022.
The 25 MW/100 MWh EVx™ Gravity Energy Storage System (GESS) is a 4-hour duration project being built outside of Shanghai in Rudong, Jiangsu Province, China. The EVx™ is under construction directly adjacent to a wind farm and national grid.
Including Rudong, 468 MWh are now under construction in China of the total 3.7 GWh of Energy Vault’s GESS announced by CNTY and Atlas Renewable. Eeach of these systems will generate project revenue royalties for Energy Vault.
The company also said that the Rudong and Zhangye City systems were recently classified as “new energy storage pilot demonstration projects” by China’s National Energy Administration (NEA), which gives them the benefit of increased management oversight by provincial-level energy authorities.
