A press release from the country’s prime minister said that Gotion has signed an investment deal with the Moroccan government to erect the battery gigafactory. The gigafactory is expected to operate with an initial battery capacity of 20 GWh.
Since 2023, several Chinese lithium battery industry chain companies, including CATL, Gotion High-Tech, Sunwoda, BTR, Huayou Cobalt, CNGR Advanced Material and Tinci Materials, have collectively invested in Morocco and built factories. The battery industry chain centered around LFP is forming rapidly.
The first phase of the project is expected to create over 2,000 jobs. In terms of energy storage projects, Morocco is actively introducing battery energy storage systems (BESS) to complement renewable energy. Several Chinese companies are involved in this.
