This chapter presents three basic types of three-phase AC power converters: three-phase AC-to-DC rectifiers, DC-to-AC three-phase inverters, and three-phase AC to three-phase AC converters. The best-known applications are motor drives for three-phase AC induction or synchronous machines.
Modern electronic systems cannot function without three-phase inverters, which transform DC power into three-phase AC power with adjustable amplitude, frequency, and phase difference. They are essential in several applications, including as power distribution networks, renewable energy systems, and industrial motor drives.
Three-phase currents, voltages and their corresponding phase shifts are shown when having the AC/DC converter working respectively as a PFC, inductive load, inverter and capacitive load.
