Tesla''s new energy storage Gigafactory in Shanghai marks a significant expansion in the company''s global operations, aligning with Tesla''s ongoing growth strategy in the energy sector.
The energy storage factory covers an area of approximately 200,000 square meters, which is equivalent to the size of 30 standard soccer fields. It initially plans to produce 10,000 Megapack units a year, with a storage capacity of nearly 40 GWh.
The facility, first announced in April 2023, marks Tesla’s continued expansion in China, the world’s largest electric vehicle and energy storage market. Located in Shanghai’s Lingang Free Trade Zone, the plant aims to bolster global energy storage capacity by producing 10,000 Megapacks annually, equivalent to 40 GWh of energy storage.
